Bay Area Diesel, an authorized Scania engine dealer providing comprehensive parts, service, and engine replacement and installation for Scania products along with many other marine power brands, recently completed a significant repower project for G&S Marine’s M/V Launch Runner. Working in partnership with Laborde Products, the project replaced four Scania DI13 Tier 2 engines with four new Scania DI13 Tier 3 engines, each delivering 650 horsepower at 2100 rpm.
The quad-screw configuration posed unique challenges that required both technical expertise and careful scheduling. Our team managed cooler updates, exhaust system adjustments, and control system integrations while working around the vessel’s operational commitments. In crew boat service, minimizing downtime is critical—every day in the yard represents lost revenue for the operator.
“A quad-screw repower is always a big lift, but the DI13s fit well and our team managed the changeover with limited yard time,” said Joey Steckler with Bay Area Diesel. “We built the install around the vessel’s schedule so Launch Runner could get back to work quickly, with a clear plan for ongoing support.”

G&S Marine owner Garry McCrae chose to stay with Scania based on proven performance and the support relationship established with Bay Area Diesel. “For us, the decision was simple. Scania engines already proved themselves on the Launch Runner, and Bay Area Diesel proved they had our back,” McCrae noted. “The Tier 3 DI13s give us the performance we need with less downtime, and when we need support, we get it.”

As a hand-selected member of Laborde Products’ dealer network, Bay Area Diesel brings technical training, parts availability, and responsive service to marine operators throughout the region.
